User research found that utilizing a camera to ID plants would be a go-to feature which represents a lot of complexity
Number of invasive plants varies greatly and is dependant on customer location
The 'cold start' problem with respect to a collaborative social dimension to identifying and mitigating invasives
Determine if an API could be integrated into the app to offload the complexity of plant identification to a 3rd party
Work with device location features to quickly narrow down possible species or let the user specify the location
Determine how the app will solve a problem for existing groups that are ecologically active.
Creating a solution for social good was a rewarding effort of gaining awareness of an issue that is happening now - the loss of ecological diversity. It revealed the unique challenge nonprofits and NGOs have in bringing attention to their issues - getting consumers to ask questions they haven't asked yet. It was challenging to get people to give input on an app solving a problem they hadn't considered. More discovery around what would generate more curiosity would generate a more in-depth product/market design nitche.
